Authorship Criteria

KIRANA: Social Science Journal (eISSN 3062-780X)

1. Purpose

KIRANA: Social Science Journal is committed to upholding transparency, accountability, and integrity in scholarly publishing. This policy sets out who qualifies as an author and the responsibilities that come with authorship. It is guided by the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

2. Who Qualifies as an Author

An author is a person who has made a substantial intellectual contribution to the work. To be listed as an author, an individual must meet all of the following conditions:

  1. Made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the study, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data;
  2. Drafted the manuscript or revised it critically for important intellectual content;
  3. Approved the final version of the manuscript to be published; and
  4. Agreed to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to its accuracy or integrity are appropriately investigated and resolved.

3. Contributions That Do Not Qualify for Authorship

The following activities, on their own, do not justify authorship: securing funding, providing general administrative or technical support, supplying access to data or participants, proofreading or language editing, and general supervision of a research group. Individuals who made such contributions should be recognized in the Acknowledgements section, with their written permission where appropriate.

4. Order of Authors

The order of authors should reflect the relative contribution of each author and must be agreed upon by all co-authors before submission. The journal does not arbitrate the order of authorship.

5. Corresponding Author

One author must be designated as the corresponding author. This person is responsible for communicating with the editorial office during submission, peer review, and publication, and for keeping all co-authors informed of the manuscript’s progress and of any decisions made.

6. Author Contribution Statement

Authors are encouraged to include a statement describing each author’s contribution, preferably using the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) categories.

7. Changes to the Author List

Any addition, removal, or rearrangement of authors after submission must be requested by the corresponding author in writing, accompanied by a clear justification and the written consent of all authors, including the person being added or removed. Requests will be reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief. Changes will not be considered after acceptance, except in exceptional circumstances.

8. Prohibited Practices

The journal does not tolerate the following:

  • Ghost authorship: excluding individuals who meet the authorship criteria;
  • Guest or gift authorship: including individuals who have not made a substantial contribution, regardless of their status or seniority;
  • Fabricated authorship: listing false identities or persons who have not consented to be named.

Violations may result in rejection of the manuscript, retraction of a published article, notification of the authors’ institutions, and a ban on future submissions.

9. Use of Artificial Intelligence

AI tools (including large language models) cannot be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the work. Any use of generative AI in preparing the manuscript must be disclosed transparently in the Methods or Acknowledgements section, specifying the tool used and its purpose. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy and originality of the content.

10. Authorship Disputes

Authorship disputes should first be resolved among the authors and their institutions. If a dispute is brought to the journal, the editorial board will follow the relevant COPE guidelines and may suspend the review or publication process until the matter is resolved.
