Visual media is a learning tool that conveys messages through sight. In the development of visual media in grade 5 of elementary school, there are still several obstacles that hinder the optimization of the process. This can be seen from several symptoms, such as the lack of teacher creativity in creating attractive visual media, as well as the inability of teachers to analyze the needs and characteristics of students properly. In this study, the main focus is on innovations in mathematics learning that utilize visual media to improve understanding of the concept of whole numbers. In particular, emphasis will be placed on the use of photos and images as media in the learning process to understand the concept of whole numbers. In line with these problems, the research question can be formulated as follows: how can innovations in mathematics learning by utilizing visual media improve understanding of the concept of whole numbers? This study aims to explore the role of visual media in the learning process to understand the concept of whole numbers. This type of research is included in the qualitative descriptive category. In data collection, the author uses interview techniques, after which the data obtained is analyzed to produce conclusions. Based on the results of the research and data analysis carried out using the qualitative descriptive method, it can be concluded that innovations in mathematics learning through visual media involve several important steps. These steps include: analyzing student needs and characteristics, formulating instructional objectives, compiling material items, developing tools to measure success, writing media scripts, and conducting tests and revisions.
